Hungarian Kaszino

The Sydney Hungarian Casino was founded in 1966, originally as a men-only organisation. Over time, it grew into much more than a social club, it became an important guardian of Hungarian language, culture, and history in Australia. As its popularity increased, it found a permanent home at the Sydney Hungarian House, where it continues to operate today.

The club’s programs still feature popular historical lectures, Hungarian musical and entertainment performances, as well as the preservation of literature and poetry. These gatherings not only celebrate culture but also provide valuable opportunities for old friends to spend meaningful time together, especially for the ageing and gradually shrinking community.

The proceeds from events, particularly shared lunches, are donated to charitable causes. These include supporting Hungarian communities in need in regions such as Transcarpathia (Beregszász), Transylvania, and beyond, as well as local initiatives like schools and scouting groups. Over the past two years, the Casino has contributed a total of $24,000 to the Hungarian community in Sydney.
