Residential Hungarian Aged Care Facility

St. Elizabeth Home is a non-profit organisation whose operations are governed by Australian aged care legislation and government regulations. For more than half a century, St Elizabeth Home has been one of the most important institutions of the Hungarian community in Sydney, serving elderly Hungarians living in Australia and supporting their families.

The Home was founded in 1967 at the initiative of Hungarian Catholic priest Father Ferenc Forró, with the dedicated support of the Hungarian community in Sydney. Through enthusiastic volunteer work, generous donations, and strong community cooperation, the institution was established and has since become one of the key establishments of the Hungarian diaspora in New South Wales.
St. Elizabeth Home is located in Dean Park, in western Sydney, just minutes from the M7 motorway. The facility is set on approximately 10 hectares of landscaped parkland, providing a peaceful and green environment for residents. The residential aged care facility offers accommodation for 102 residents across five building wings, including a specialised 20-bed dementia care unit.
The organisation operates as an independently registered company under the oversight of its own Board of Directors. The residents are pensioners, some with limited financial means. Many have family members who remained in Hungary, while others simply wish to spend their later years surrounded by Hungarian language, culture, traditions, and cuisine within our St. Elizabeth Home community.

More Than a Nursing Home
St. Elizabeth Home is not only an aged care facility, but also an important cultural hub for the Hungarian community in Sydney. The grounds include a Hungarian museum and a Hungarian chapel where mass is held every Sunday. The Home regularly hosts cultural programs, celebrations, and events that bring people together.
For decades, St. Elizabeth Feast Day celebrations have been held annually in honour of the Home’s patron saint, St. Elizabeth of Hungary. This is celebrated by holding a Hungarian cultural Fete which attracts over a thousand people and has been one of the most significant gatherings for the Hungarian community in Sydney.
Our purpose is to provide elderly Hungarians in Australia with a culturally familiar, supportive, Hungarian-speaking environment where they receive high-quality clinical, spiritual, and community care.
Our leadership is committed to continuously improving services, enhancing residents’ quality of life, and strengthening Hungarian cultural and community life in Sydney.
